What is “Stuff that’s Left Behind”?
Excellent question. Thanks for asking.
Stuffthatsleftbehind.com is a blog all about the things we find ourselves stuck with when a relationship ends. You know the stuff we’re talking about - it’s either staring you in the face right now or buried somewhere at the back of a closet because you just didn’t want to deal with it. So, what’s that item for you? What’s the story behind it? Does it make you laugh? Cry? Does it annoy you every time you see it or make you smile just a little despite the way it all ended? Maybe it’s an old sweater of his that you couldn’t bring yourself to toss or a copy of her favorite book, the one she gave you right before dumping you for your best friend. Whatever it is, we want to hear the story and see a picture. Get it off your chest and let the rest of the world know they’re not alone. Going through a break up is never easy, but telling the world about it is super fun!
OR maybe you moved into your new house or apartment and found a treasure trove of weird stuff left by the previous owner... That works too!
Why is “Stuff that’s Left Behind”?
First, there was www.exboyfriendjewelry.com - a website born from a conversation between Megahn Perry and me, Marie Perry, over dinner: What do you do with emotionally charged mementos when the relationship ends? Who needs this shiny stuff cluttering up the jewelry box, reminding us of the promise it once held? We decided it could be fun and cathartic to move those painful little reminders out of our lives, so we created the website and LOTS of people showed up.
The more we talked to people about the site, the more great stories we heard from men and woman about ALL KINDS of stuff left behind: stuff you bought together, his stuff, her stuff, pets, ugly sofas etc. We’ve all been left with items, sentimental or otherwise, when a relationship ends.
So one morning, I wake up really early with this thought in my head, “We need to start another website!” I wait until a decent hour and call Megahn with the exciting news. She’s less than thrilled with the thought of overseeing ANOTHER website but quickly warms to the idea and so, here we are: A blog about the stuff that’s left behind.
