I was going out with this guy a few years ago. He was such a great guy! He treated me like I was the best thing to ever happen to him. I was his princess (according to him). Now, as great a guy as he was, he should really let his sister pick out gifts for his girlfriends from now on. During the time we were going out, one of his cousins was getting married far away from where we lived so he left for two weeks to attend the wedding. The first time I saw him after he returned, he handed me a small gray box. I open it to find an extremely large black bear charm attached to a chain. I was stunned. Why a bear? I couldn’t tell you to this day why he would get me a necklace with a bear on it. It wasn’t one of those things that was a joke just between us, in fact I don’t think we ever even spoke of bears in any of our conversations, why would we have? The only thing I could do when receiving this gift was smile, give him a kiss and say I just how much I loved it.
A few years later when I moved, I found a mysterious box in the back of my closet. In it, along with the rest of the contents from past boyfriends, was the bear necklace. As ugly as that necklace was, I could never throw it out. After all, it’s the thought that counts, right?
